Cohoes - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John T. Barrett on Thursday, April 9, 2026.
Born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, John lived a life defined by hard work, loyalty, and a deep love for his family. He was a graduate of Shaker High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy throughout the Gulf War.
John spent nearly 30 years as a union iron worker and was a former shop steward with Iron Workers Local 12. He took great pride in his work and the brotherhood that came with it.
More than anything, John will be remembered for who he was to those around him. He had a big heart, was quick with a joke, and was always ready to enjoy a good time. He loudly brought energy, humor, and warmth into every room he entered.
He is survived by his wife, Erin Farrigan Barrett; his children, Randall, Tyler, and Shaelah; daughter-in-law Amanda; and his grandchildren, Lily, Finn, and Jade. He is also survived by his brothers, Jason and Dereck, and his mother, Ann.
He is preceded in death by his father, John “Jack” Barrett.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the DUFRESNE FUNERAL HOME, 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes, on Wednesday, April 15, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A celebration of life will take place on Wednesday from 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM, with Rev. Kyle Goresnki officiating, and all are welcome to share memories.
In lieu of flowers, cards, or gifts, the family asks that you consider a donation to his wife, Erin, to assist with expenses.
John will be deeply missed and never forgotten. For condolences, www.dufresnefuneralhome.com.
