Apprenticeship
Local 12 in partnership with the NYS Dept. of Labor has a 4yr apprenticeship program made up of a minimum of 204 classroom hrs per yr as well as on the job training.
EARN WHILE YOU LEARN
New Apprentices are brought in September of each year to correspond with our school year.

From 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. the first Friday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. All applications must be filled out in person and are only accepted on the dates and times noted above.
The Committee requires that applicants:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
- Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by statement from applicant that he/she is physically capable of the following:
- Wearing a safety belt weighing 25-50 lbs for a full day.
- Carrying steel rods weighing between 50-150 lbs each.
- Climbing for erection jobs, bridges, wall-reinforcing, etc.
- Walking, climbing, bending, reaching, lifting and carrying for a full day.
- Must have transportation to various job sites and classes.
- Must submit to drug screening, after acceptance into the program, at the expense of the sponsor.
Apprenticeship opportunities depend on industry needs. The actual hiring of apprentices is done by members of a Labor/Management apprenticeship committee using an unbiased selection procedure that is reviewed and approved by the Department of Labor. Openings are filled without regard to race, creed, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, arrest record or marital status.
